En general, la financiación pública, procede principalmente del estado y de los municipios, y en menor medida de las regiones. Según datos de Kulturrådet, la cifra total de ayudas en el año 2015 de estas tres administraciones, fueron de 26 mil millones de coronas, de los que la mayor parte fueron ayudas estatales y municipales (43% y 42%), y las regiones del quince porciento restante (Kulturanalys, 2016).
